What is even more impressive is that Evie only just learnt to ride her bike during lockdown, but she, like many other young people are trying make sense of the lockdown, with no school and not being able to see friends and family and not being able to go to Guides which she loves and is part of the North Curry group.
Evie decided she wanted to do something to help in her local community so decided to raise money for the local charity Compass which helps support many vulnerable and those living with any sort of disability across Somerset.
Rachael Broddle, Evie’s mum is a front line nurse at Musgrove Park Hospital, and has told Tone News;
When Evie said she wanted to take on a challenge to raise money locally, we were so proud of her, she wants to make a difference and help those in our community. It is going to be tough cycling 500 miles during June as that will mean an average of 16 miles a day!
But we know she will do it as she is so determined and has put in a lot of training. We started off as a target of raising £500 to reflect the distance but due to the generosity of people we are already at over £600, it would be amazing if we could get it to £1000!
Like many smaller charities, Compass Disability Services had their income from fundraising and other streams go to zero overnight. The wellbeing centre has a range of activities and events to support all ages and abilities in the community but without funding, the charity will struggle.
Evie is making a huge difference and has already had messages of support from Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists such as Laura Scott, Jody Cundy, Steve Bate and Helen Scott!
