Armed Forces Day will once again take place in Vivary Park on July 4th 2020, the details of which were confirmed earlier this week after organisers met with Somerset West & Taunton Council.
It will be another chance for everyone in and around the county town to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community following on from the success of this years event.
Members from the event committee met with Leader of the Council, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, the Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Fran Smith and other Council members and officers to present their plans for a bigger and better event next year.
Philip Winks, Event Committee Chair has told Tone News: “We are determined to make Taunton the hub of Armed Forces Day celebrations across Somerset for 2020. We want to make the event a county-wide celebration of our Armed Forces, Reserves, Cadets and Veterans, supported by local businesses and open to all the community with free entry.”
A new website for the event is currently under construction and will allow the community to get involved, make suggestions and view the attractions on offer. Armed Forces Day is designed to be a fun day out for all the family, and it is hoped that the Taunton Armed Forces Day event will attract visitors from across the region.
Meanwhile, SSAFA Somerset are looking for a Branch Treasurer. This is a volunteer role which would require approximately five hours a week along with occasional attendance at meetings throughout the year.
The main role is one of oversight, line management, accounting for administrative and restricted funds, and preparing management reports.
General experience of financial operations at executive level, as opposed to specific accounting skills, is the key requirement.
