Remembrance Day services in Taunton will be lead by The Mayor, Councillor Francesca Smith, with a programme of events to mark this year’s annual observation of Remembrance.
Cllr Smith will be joined by a civic party including members of Somerset West and Taunton Council for the events which begin with a Dedication of the Field of Remembrance.
This short service will take place in the churchyard at St Mary Magdalene Church at 10.55am on Thursday 7th November. The Remembrance Day Sunday Service will be held at St Mary Magdalene Church at 9.30am on the 10th November.
The civic party together with a parade of veterans, scouts, guides and cadets, will then march through the town centre where Cllr Smith will take the salute on the steps of the Old Municipal Buildings in Corporation Street at 10.30am.
There will be a brief road closure to allow the civic party and the parade to move towards Vivary Park where the Service of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial at 11am.
The Mayor will also lead Two Minutes Silence in Taunton Town Centre at 11am on Monday 11 November. The service is held each year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, to mark the end of the First World War.
As always, the Royal British Legion will be selling poppies and there many other items you can purchase online at the Poppy Shop.
On the Sunday morning, Taunton’s 107.8 Tone FM will also mark the occasion with the build up on air from 10am. There will also be a 2 minute silence at 11am.
