When the Running Forever Running Club decided to update their club kit, the committee decided to donate the stock of old design vests to the Gathimba Edwards Foundation, a charity set up by 2 runners to support the most disadvantaged children and families in Iten, Kenya.
As well as supporting children back into education (they are excluded if their families cannot pay the fees), they support kids who are interested in athletics and football.
The vests have gone to children who are part of their new running club. Iten is the home of many top Kenyan athletes so it’s possible we’re seeing a future Olympic Champion or London Marathon winner in our kit!
Myles Edwards (a former Scottish international athlete) and Gideon Gathimba met and formed a friendship through running before pooling their talents into setting up their foundation. They are very grateful for our donation and for sending a little bit of RFRC love to Kenya.
RFRC Vice Chair Linda Forsyth got to know Myles through parkrun when she lived in Aberdeen and has been a keen supporter of GEF for many years. GEF bring practical solutions and joy to those in the poorest of situations and RFRC are delighted to be able to help in this small way.
