The NEW Taunton Independent Market launches on Sunday 8th March with the first market taking place on Castle Green.
Listen to our EXCLUSIVE interview with Michelle Beck at the bottom of this page:
Taunton’s long history of being a market town stretches back for more than 1,000 years. For centuries a regular Taunton market was held on The Parade in front of the Market House.
The brain behind the new Taunton Independent Market is well respected businesswoman Michelle Beck, of ‘By Invitation Events’.
Michelle announced her plan to bring a quality, independent market back to Taunton last year and intended to launch her first market in the summer of 2019.
However, Michelle was then sadly diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2019, which resulted in her market plans being put on hold.
With her treatment completed and Michelle now back to good health, launching the market has remained her priority. Michelle told tone Tone News:
“As a proud Taunton girl, I am hugely excited to be bringing a market back to our County town and have had tremendous support from many local traders and sponsorship from some well respected local businesses.
“With our high streets facing difficult times nationally, my aim is to see Taunton have a bustling and regular independent market back in the town centre. I want to put Taunton firmly on the map as a quality shopping and social destination.”
Michelle hopes the market will become well-known as a quality street market across the South West, with a friendly and vibrant vibe, showcasing the best of what the South West has to offer.
With over 60 stalls already confirmed, ranging from local independent sellers of food and drink, crafts, homewares, fashion, this is sure to be a boost for the Taunton retail economy and continue with the encouraging footfall numbers we saw over the Christmas period.
